In a recent development, a new facility designed to serve as a rest area for food delivery riders is currently under construction in Sungai Kapeh, near the second Segamat bridge on Jalan Laksamana. The project, which is being hailed as a success by Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, has been in the works since her engagement with 100 food delivery riders during her last election campaign in Segamat.

The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) made a Facebook post announcing the new facility, stating that it is expected to be completed next month. Construction of the facility began in June, with the Segamat Municipal Council (MPS) serving as the implementing agency for the project.

The facility, modeled after a rest and service (R&R) area, is being funded by an allocation of RM650,000 from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT). Despite the funding, the architect or firm responsible for the construction of the facility remains unspecified.

Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, the Sekijang Member of Parliament, presented the request for the facility to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) with the cooperation of Segamat Municipal Council (MPS). The facility, which is being referred to as a 'pit stop', is a part of Zaliia's election manifesto pledges during the last General Election.

The 'pit stop' is intended to provide a much-needed respite for food delivery riders, offering them a place to rest and recharge. This comes amidst the passing of the Gig Workers Bill 2025 in the Dewan Rakyat, which aims to benefit gig workers across the country.

While the exact date of completion remains unspecified, Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa is optimistic about the project's success. The new facility is set to make a significant difference in the lives of food delivery riders in the area, providing them with a safe and comfortable space to rest during their long hours on the job.
