Government Initiates 'Angikaar 2025' as Part of PMAY-U 2.0 to Expedite Housing Development in Over 5,000 Urban Centers

In a significant move to promote affordable housing, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) of India launched Angikaar 2025 on September 4, 2025, in New Delhi. The two-month nationwide outreach campaign is an integral part of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0).

Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, Manohar Lal, inaugurated the campaign, which aims to accelerate house construction under the PMAY-U 2.0 scheme and ensure last-mile delivery of its benefits. The campaign will run till October 31 across more than 5,000 urban local bodies.

Under PMAY-U 2.0, an additional one crore urban families are set to receive financial assistance of up to Rs 2.5 lakh for building or purchasing homes. The first phase of the campaign, PM Awas Mela-Shehri, will be from September 17 to 27, with the second phase from October 16 to 31.

The campaign will feature door-to-door awareness drives, loan melas, cultural programmes, and camps. A flagship event, PM Awas Mela-Shehri, will be organized at district and municipal levels in two phases. This event will showcase housing benefits, connect schemes, and encourage community participation.

In addition to this, the PMAY CLSS Scheme will be highlighted during the campaign. This scheme offers a subsidy of up to Rs 2,35,068 for house purchase. A direct link to apply for the scheme has been provided.

The PMAY CLSS Scheme is designed for those who have recently purchased a flat or house on a home loan and are looking for a subsidy on interest payment. Furthermore, the campaign will fast-track application verification, expedite completion of pending houses, and inform beneficiaries about schemes such as the Credit Risk Guarantee Fund Trust for Low Income Housing (CRGFTLIH) and PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

So far, PMAY-U has sanctioned 120 lakh houses, of which 94.11 lakh pucca houses have been completed and delivered. The campaign reaffirms the government's push for "Housing for All" by bridging delivery gaps and bringing welfare schemes closer to citizens.

The first anniversary of PMAY-U 2.0 will be celebrated on PMAY-U Awas Diwas on September 17. The launch event of Angikaar 2025 was attended by Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu, Housing Secretary Srinivas Katikithala, and Mission Director for Housing for All Kuldip Narayan, along with other senior officials.

With Angikaar 2025, the government is taking a significant step towards achieving its goal of providing affordable housing for all urban families by 2025.
