Governor Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick signed two bills into law on Friday morning, aiming to improve camp safety and flood regulations across Texas. The move comes after the tragic floods that hit the state, prompting the need for stricter regulations.

In a powerful statement, Governor Abbott said, "Every child who goes to camp should come home to their families. No parent should ever outlive their child or endure this kind of loss." The governor's words resonated with many, including the parents of Camp Mystic, who applauded the decision. Katie and Clarke Baker, parents of 8-year-old Mary Grace Baker, issued a statement saying, "The legislature listened, and Texas children will be safer because of it."

The new laws create enhanced safety regulations at camps across Texas. The provisions of the laws include the prohibition of cabins in floodplains, state inspections, and emergency management plan requirements. Furthermore, Senate Bill 3 mandates flood sirens in flood-prone areas around the state, and funding is set aside for communities to install these sirens.

The Texas House has also advanced a flood relief bill regulating summer camps, which is part of the package of laws. However, not all items related to disaster preparedness and flooding made it out of the legislature. Some items, including improved communication equipment between organizations during emergency events, did not pass.

Governor Abbott has put several items related to disaster preparedness and flooding on his agenda for both the first and second called special sessions. When asked if another special session could be called to address other agenda items like THC regulation, Governor Abbott added, "Something may be happening soon."

The politician who signed the laws on camp safety and flood regulations in Texas together with Governor Abbott on Friday morning is not named in the provided search results. Nonetheless, the signing event was attended by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.

The laws include Senate Bill 1 (Heaven's 27 Camp Safety Act) and House Bill 1 (Youth CAMPER Act). The Texas Senate and House adjourned sine die late Wednesday night, marking the end of the regular legislative session.

Governor Abbott concluded, "We are doing more than just changing campgrounds in Texas. We are changing the future for our children and their families." With the signing of these bills, Texas takes a significant step towards ensuring the safety of its children and communities during floods and at summer camps.
