GPT-5 deployment is imminent, featuring an update to Copilot
Apple has recently patched a security flaw in macOS, discovered by Microsoft researchers, which had been present since March. Meanwhile, Microsoft is making strides in artificial intelligence with its Microsoft 365 Copilot.
The consumer version of Copilot's "smart mode" is described as an AI that "thinks deeply or quickly based on the task." This feature suggests that Microsoft engineers are gearing up for the release of GPT-5, as early references to the model have already been spotted inside Copilot's web app.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently emailed employees about potential layoffs, while the employee-only version of Copilot's "smart mode" is designed to "use the most relevant model for your request to give you better results."
Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman has discussed the concept of Copilot aging and becoming personalized enough to have its own virtual room. This could be a glimpse into the future of AI-driven interfaces.
In a move towards more expressive AI, Microsoft has launched a new Copilot Appearance virtual character feature, allowing Copilot to respond to queries with real-time expressions.
Microsoft is also reportedly close to finalizing a deal to maintain access to OpenAI's models even if OpenAI achieves artificial general intelligence (AGI). This could potentially strengthen Microsoft's position in the AI market.
OpenAI, on the other hand, is planning to launch GPT-5 in early August. The company's CEO, Sam Altman, has stated that OpenAI wants to improve ChatGPT's model picker.
As for gaming, Xbox will allow attendees to play Silksong at Gamescom in August.
Windows 10 has turned 10 years old this year, and Microsoft has launched an experimental Copilot Mode for its Edge browser.
Lastly, Microsoft is starting to comply with the UK's Online Safety Act by prompting Xbox players to verify their age. However, privacy concerns have led to Microsoft's Recall feature being blocked by browsers like Brave and AdGuard.
In the ever-evolving world of technology, these developments underscore the ongoing race to advance AI capabilities and set new standards in user experience.
