Grass-lined Alley Houses a "Berliner Kissen"
In a bid to counteract noise pollution and excessive speeds, mobile speed bumps have been installed in two locations within the city. The public works department, traffic authority, police, and utility company made the decision to install these bumps on both Hauptstraße and Grassgasse Street.
On Thursday, the new speed bumps were installed in the middle of Grassgasse Street. These 1.80 meters wide Berlin cushions are 6.5 centimeters high and are designed to be passable for bicycles and buses, ensuring minimal disruption to traffic flow. Cars must drive slowly over the speed bumps to ensure their effectiveness.
The chosen location for the mobile road humps on Grassgasse Street was determined after a meeting with top management. The aim of installing the speed bumps is to calm traffic and reduce noise pollution in the area.
The trial operation of the mobile road humps on Grassgasse Street will run until winter, during which their effectiveness in calming traffic and counteracting noise pollution will be evaluated. Speed checks by traffic enforcement will be conducted more frequently in the city center in the evenings to monitor the impact of these measures.
Meanwhile, a test site for mobile road humps was determined on Hauptstraße. The transferability of the speed bump measure to other locations will be tested after the trial operation on Grassgasse Street.
The installation of these mobile speed bumps is part of a larger initiative to make Berlin's streets safer and quieter for its residents and visitors. The police were present at the meeting with top management, ensuring that the installation and operation of these speed bumps are carried out in accordance with the law.
