News Article: Comprehensive Redesign of Ellernholzteich's Circular Path Completed
After a four-and-a-half-month construction period, the comprehensive redesign of the circular path around Ellernholzteich lake has been completed. The redesign, which includes various improvements to the path, was carried out by the Greifswald company ASA Bau and funded through the KfW program "Natural Climate Protection in Municipalities".
The redesign aimed to ecologically enhance the watercourse while increasing its drainage capacity. Two new culverts were built as part of the project: one for the circular path and another for the cycle path to the school grounds. In case of heavy rain, more water can now be directed to the rainwater retention basin, ensuring the continuous use of the path even in adverse weather conditions.
The redesign includes the installation of new benches, a barbecue area, and shade-giving trees, making the path more inviting for leisure activities. Additionally, better connections to surrounding residential areas have been established, making it easier for locals to access and enjoy the path.
The students of the future school center are also expected to benefit from the redesign. The development of the school center at Ellernholzteich included the exposure and redesign of drainage ditch 25/1. The final planting for the newly developed drainage ditch is scheduled for the fall.
The comprehensive redesign of the approximately 1.1 km long cycling and hiking trail around Ellernholzteich was planned by the local municipal planning department. The concrete design plans for the redesign have been scheduled for completion by the end of 2025.
Despite the completion of the construction work, the project is not yet fully complete. The concrete design plans for the redesign have been commissioned and are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025. Construction for the redesign is set to begin in 2026.
The KfW program provides funding for natural climate protection projects in municipalities. The costs for the construction amounted to approximately 450,000 euros. The redesign is part of a larger effort to improve the local environment and promote sustainable living in the community.
