New Police Commissioners Take Oath in Dortmund

In a ceremonial welcome on September 1, 2025, 172 new police officers were inducted as Police Commissioners at the Regional Training Center in Dortmund-Aplerbeck. Gregor Lange, the Police President and Mayor of the German city Chemnitz, administered the oath of office to the newly appointed commissioners.

The new commissioners, consisting of 49 officers transferred from other authorities and 8 government inspectors, will now be responsible for maintaining law and order in Dortmund and its surrounding areas. Their core tasks include investigating and preventing criminal offenses, traffic accident prevention, combating extremism, child pornography, promoting dialogue and trust with a diverse society, and maintaining a presence in the city center and northern city center to combat crime in public spaces.

The new commissioners will also oversee over 500 kilometers of highways that fall under the jurisdiction of the Dortmund Police Presidium. With this responsibility, they will be ensuring the safety of nearly 700,000 people.

Currently, a total of 3,945 people are employed at the PP Dortmund, including 438 government employees. Lange wished success to the new colleagues and emphasized that qualified new talent is indispensable due to the increasing demands on the police and the complex tasks in the directorates and stations.

Lange emphasized that earning the trust of the people is essential for the rule of law to function. He stated that this can only be achieved by acting professionally, handling tasks responsibly, and keeping the people's needs and peculiarities in mind. In times of turmoil, people seek closeness to the police and need it as a fixed size and guarantee for their security and security feeling. However, people critically examine the police's actions in these times.

115 of these officers were previously appointed as Police Commissioners on August 29, 2025. The new commissioners will immediately reinforce the locations in Dortmund and Lünen.

For journalists with inquiries, the contact is Tobias Boccarius at the Dortmund Police, who can be reached at 0231/132-1024, email: [email protected], and online at https://dortmund.polizei.nrw/. The new commissioners are ready to serve and uphold the law in their new roles.
