Guide forcommencing Fantasy Premier League in the 2025/26 season
Get ready for an exciting football season as the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) returns for the 2023-24 Premier League season! This popular fantasy game, based on the real-life performances of players in the Premier League, allows you to create your own squad and compete against millions of other managers worldwide.
Building Your Squad
To start your FPL journey, you'll need to sign up on the FPL website or the Premier League app. Once registered, you'll be given a budget of £100m to build your squad of 15 players. You can select only two goalkeepers, five defenders, five midfielders, and three forwards.
When selecting your team, consider factors such as goals, assists, clean sheets, minutes played, defensive contributions, and saves. Remember, each player has a unique value, with Mohamed Salah being the most expensive at £14.5m.
Scoring Points
Each week, you'll need to pick a captain who scores double points, and a vice-captain who will get double points only if your captain does not play at all. These selections can be changed each gameweek. Bonus points can also be awarded for outstanding performances during a game.
However, points can be deducted for conceding goals, yellow cards, red cards, penalty misses, and own goals. It's crucial to balance your team's offensive and defensive strengths.
Using Your Chips
Throughout the season, you'll have access to eight chips that can help you make strategic changes to your team:
- Two Wildcards: These allow you to make unlimited transfers within the gameweek.
- Two Free Hits: These give you a free transfer each, meaning no points penalty for making additional transfers.
- Two Triple Captains: These allow you to triple the points of your captain for that gameweek.
- Two Bench Boosts: These allow all your bench players to score points as if they were starters.
These chips do not carry over from the first to the second half of the season if they're not played.
Transfers and Deadlines
You can make unlimited transfers within your budget, but beware - if you make more transfers than the number of free available, a penalty of -4 points is incurred for each of these transfers. Selections are locked in once the gameweek starts, so choose wisely!
The deadline for any changes in terms of transfers and changes to the starting XI is usually 90 minutes before the first game of a gameweek starts. If the deadline is missed, players can still play, but they'll be a week behind, registering no points for the first gameweek.
Visual Guides and Updates
FPL provides a visual guide to the difficulty of the next three fixtures for players, helping you make informed decisions about your transfers. The value of players also fluctuates through the course of a season - if players perform well, their value will go up, and if they do not, values will drop.
