Gunshots narrowly miss their mark as Moneymaker focuses on hitting Venom in a showdown
The first starting flight of the highly anticipated ACR Poker $10M GTD Venom no-limit hold'em tournament and the PLO event got underway on August 13, drawing a significant number of participants.
Day 1A of the no-limit hold'em event recorded 740 entries, surpassing the average needed per Day 1. The PLO event, on the other hand, attracted 165 entries, exceeding the average required over five starting flights. This strong turnout is a promising sign for the success of the tournaments.
Notable players who advanced to Day 2 at their first attempt include Michael Loncar and Rob Kuhn. However, some high-profile names, such as Ebony Kenney, Drew 'BetOnDrew' Gonzalez, Jeff Boski, Jon Pardy, and Chris Moneymaker, did not make it to Day 2. Many pros who missed the cut are expected to take another shot at the tournament.
Chris Moneymaker, a high-profile ambassador for ACR Poker, participated in the no-limit hold'em event on Day 1A but did not advance to Day 2. Moneymaker, who famously won the World Series of Poker main event in 2003, invested over $10,000 on buy-ins for the tournament.
In a unique twist, mystery bounties of $5K-$500K will be in play on Day 2 for both tournaments, adding an extra layer of excitement. ACR Poker is streaming Day 1A of the tournament, and some pros are expected to stream their play during the tournament.
To accommodate more players, an additional Day 1 has been scheduled for August 23 at 12:05pm ET for both the no-limit hold'em and PLO Venom tournaments. There are still five more starting flights available for the tournament. The remaining starting flights for both events will run on August 14, 17, 21, and 24, each at 12:05pm ET.
The $8M guarantee for the no-limit hold'em event requires 3,200 players, while the PLO event needs 800 players to cover its $2M guarantee. With the strong start on Day 1A and the additional Day 1 scheduled, it seems that the tournaments are well on their way to reaching these guarantees.
Stay tuned for updates as the tournaments progress and more players fight for their share of the massive prizepools.
