Halal Products Development Company to Establish Innovation Hub in Jeddah, According to BRF
BRF Arabia and HPDC Establish Innovation Center in Jeddah
BRF, a global food company, and the Halal Products Development Company (HPDC) have announced the creation of an innovation center at their processed food plant in Jeddah. This center is set to be a significant step forward in HPDC's mission to build a world-class halal ecosystem and position the Kingdom as a global halal hub.
The new Jeddah plant dedicated to processed foods will have an estimated annual production capacity of 40,000 tonnes and an initial investment of $160 million. The innovation center, at the heart of this facility, will feature a state-of-the-art laboratory divided into three specialized areas: a Physicochemical Laboratory, a Microbiological Laboratory, and a Sensory Laboratory.
The Physicochemical Laboratory will focus on technical specifications and quality control, ensuring that the products meet the highest standards. The Microbiological Laboratory, on the other hand, will ensure biosafety and prevent food contamination, catering to the expectations of the local market and meeting strict regulatory requirements. The Sensory Laboratory will evaluate whether the flavor, aroma, texture, and appearance meet the specific demands of the local consumer market.
Operations at the new plant are scheduled to begin in mid-2026. The professionals hired for the jobs will ensure excellence in quality and strict compliance with food safety protocols. The innovation center in Jeddah is expected to generate over 500 direct jobs in the region.
The creation of the innovation center reflects the commitment of both companies to investing in the Kingdom's local halal food supply and innovation, aligned with Vision 2030 goals. It underscores HPDC's commitment to strengthening local manufacturing capabilities, promoting self-sufficiency, and creating high-value job opportunities.
BRF, through its joint venture with HPDC (BRF Arabia), officially entered the halal poultry production sector in Saudi Arabia in 2025 with the acquisition of a 26% stake in Addoha Poultry Company. As a result, Sadia products are now being produced locally at Addoha's facility.
Marquinhos Molina, CEO of BRF Arabia, stated that the investment in establishing an innovation center in Jeddah is a strategic step in consolidating their local presence in Saudi Arabia. Fahad Alnuhait, CEO of HPDC, echoed this sentiment, stating that the innovation center is a significant step forward in HPDC's mission to build a world-class halal ecosystem and position the Kingdom as a global halal hub.
The innovation center is also a testament to the involvement of BRF and local Saudi partners in its establishment. BRF has made additional investments and acquisitions in Saudi Arabia, including expanding production facilities and acquiring distribution companies. The new plant will serve the Saudi market, with the potential for exports to other countries in the region.
