Hamburg bolsters emergency response: New emergency vehicles set to debut in September
The Hamburg Fire Department is set to enhance its emergency services with the introduction of six new emergency transport vehicles (ETVs) starting from September 2025. These vehicles will be operated by the German Red Cross (Deutsches Rotes Kreuz, DRK) and the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V.
The ETVs are designed to bridge the gap in care between regular ambulance transport and emergency rescue. They are intended for patients not in an acute emergency situation, aiming to free up ambulances for true emergencies.
One of the key benefits of the ETVs is their ability to significantly expand resources in emergency services. Each ETV will be staffed by two emergency medical technicians, one of whom will have at least 100 deployments as incident commander.
The implementation of these ETVs is a response to the increasing demands in emergency services. They will help ensure that medical assistance requests are served more effectively and appropriately in the future.
The ETVs will serve to cover time-insensitive and non-life-threatening emergencies, as well as patient transports. They are expected to handle several thousand deployments per year.
The introduction of ETVs is a measure to improve the efficiency of emergency care in Hamburg. They are projected to significantly improve the care of emergency patients and will contribute to efficiency improvement and quality assurance in Hamburg's emergency care.
The ETVs will relieve existing rescue vehicles (RTWs) for life-threatening emergencies. For further inquiries, contact the Hamburg Fire Department at [email protected] or visit their website at http://www.feuerwehr.hamburg.de.
The Hamburg Fire Department will put these new ETVs into service as a supplement to the existing emergency services. The ETVs will supplement the Hamburg emergency services and relieve rescue vehicles, ensuring that the city's emergency care remains effective and responsive to the needs of its citizens.
