Hamburg celebrates the anniversary of its collaborative relationship with Chicago
In the heart of Eichenpark on Hamburg's Outer Alster, a unique art installation is temporarily transforming dying trees into works of art. This project, aptly named "Hamburg Tree Art," is a significant part of the city's activities and is unlike any other in Germany.
The "Hamburg Tree Art" project is more than just an artistic endeavour; it strengthens cultural ties and positions Hamburg as a vibrant cultural hub on the international stage. The initiative is a testament to Hamburg's commitment to fostering creativity and promoting cultural diversity.
HamburgAmbassadors, the organisation behind this project, is a significant part of this endeavour. Founded in 2005, the international network of HamburgAmbassadors has grown to become an integral part of the city's cultural landscape. Hamburg News and future.hamburg, a local media company, coordinates and organises the HamburgAmbassadors network.
The 18th HamburgAmbassadors Meeting saw a record attendance, reflecting the growing interest in this unique programme. The meeting was held at Villa Viva, a house of encounter and networking in Hamburg, where discussions about the future of the programme and the city's cultural landscape were held.
The winning art installation for this year's "Hamburg Tree Art" creative competition is titled "Two Character Trunks in Embrace." Created by artist Franziska Seifert, this sculpture symbolizes the geographical distance yet close connection between Hamburg and Chicago, a city with which Hamburg shares a 30-year-old city partnership.
Rolf Strittmatter, CEO of Hamburg News and future.hamburg, emphasized the importance of art in city partnerships, stating, "Art has the power to bridge geographical and cultural gaps, fostering understanding and collaboration."
This project is reminiscent of Chicago's "Chicago Tree Sculpture Project," demonstrating Hamburg's commitment to fostering creative collaborations and strengthening its position as a global cultural hub. The "Hamburg Tree Art" project is not just about transforming trees; it's about creating connections, fostering creativity, and celebrating cultural diversity.
