Hamburg's 2035 Logistics Master Plan
Hamburg, the logistics hub of Northern Europe, has unveiled its ambitious logistics strategy for the next decade. The Hamburg Logistics Strategy 2035 aims to make the city's logistics system sustainable, innovative, and competitive, as summarised by Kerstin Wendt-Heinrich, Chairwoman of the Logistics Initiative Hamburg e.V.
Over 150 actors from various sectors were involved in developing the strategy, forming the Hamburg Logistics Network. This diverse group has worked together to create a comprehensive plan that addresses the megatrends of digitalization and sustainability, and the increasing importance of new technologies, data-based control, and collaborative models.
The strategy foresees nine action areas, including digitalization, urban logistics, securing skilled workers, and developing alternative supply chains. Urban logistics is to be expanded and logistics processes are to be better integrated into urban planning. The goal is a complete switch to emission-free transport, which aligns with Hamburg's aim to be CO2-neutral by 2045.
Cybersecurity in the context of digital transformation is a topic in the strategy. The Digital Hub Logistics & Commerce could serve as a catalyst for climate-friendly logistics, promoting the development of the circular economy and flexibility through on-demand models. The logistics system aims to enable Hamburg and the metropolitan region to act as a driver for sustainable solutions and a hub for international supply chains.
