Sarawak, a region in Malaysia, is making significant strides in its development journey. Recently, the region's role in energy development was recognised at the regional level, marking a milestone in its progress.
At a recent event, Chief Minister Abang Johari emphasised the importance of education for economic transformation and the production of a highly skilled workforce. In line with this, Sarawak will offer free education beginning next year. Scholarships, loans from Yayasan Sarawak, and the Education Fund are available to all Sarawakians, ensuring equal opportunities for all.
In the agricultural sector, Sarikei holds significant potential, with competitive export products such as pineapples, black pepper, and citrus crops. Tanjung Manis is being developed as a Halal Hub and a new growth centre. A pilot project for rice cultivation in Tanjung Manis has been initiated, with the aim of making Sarawak one of Malaysia’s main rice producers by 2030.
Sarawak is also driving the hydrogen and renewable energy economy. The implementation of the Sarawak Hydrogen Economy Roadmap, the Sarawak Sustainable Blueprint 2030, and the Energy Transition Policy are key initiatives in this regard. Sarawak aims to generate 15 gigawatts of green energy by 2035.
The Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA) has been established to support the areas of Sarikei, Tanjung Manis, Mukah, Daro, and Pulau Beruit through its development plans and pilot projects. RADDA's efforts include supporting rice cultivation in Tanjung Manis and nurturing Sarawak into a major rice producer.
In terms of digital advancements, Sarawak made history with the development of KETEQ AI, the world's first AI-powered energy device. The Sarawak Artificial Intelligence Centre (SAIC) has also been established to nurture highly skilled talent and support local startups in entering global markets.
Sarawak has also implemented fundamental developments such as bridges and coastal roads, including the Tun Datuk Patinggi Tuanku Haji Bujang bridge in Sarikei. Significant achievements have been recorded in the first phase of the 12th Malaysia Plan in Sarawak.
Abang Johari urged Sarawakians to remain united and uphold harmony. Sarawak's Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 focuses on three main pillars: economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability. The strategy aims to propel Sarawak towards achieving developed state status by 2030.
The event was officiated by Wan Junaidi, and all attendees recited the Rukun Negara pledge, reinforcing their commitment to nation-building. Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd, Bintulu Port Authority, AirBorneo airline, and Affin Bank are entities that Sarawak has established, taken over, or acquired a majority stake in, further solidifying its position in various sectors.
In conclusion, Sarawak's ambitious development plans and initiatives are positioning it as a key player in Malaysia's future. With a focus on education, agriculture, digital advancements, and sustainable energy, Sarawak is poised to achieve its goal of becoming a developed state by 2030.
