The trial for a 24-year-old German-Turkish suspect, from Saarland, begins on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the Düsseldorf Regional Court. The suspect is facing charges of manslaughter and illegal possession of a weapon, following the fatal shooting of an Uber passenger in Düsseldorf.

According to the Düsseldorf Public Prosecutor's Office, the victim, a 49-year-old man from Cameroon, was known to the police as a fraudster. The suspect had previously been defrauded of a large sum of money by the victim.

The incident occurred outside a hotel near Düsseldorf Central Station, where the accused, along with three men and his mother, lay in wait for the victim. There was a brief altercation between the accused and the victim outside the hotel, after which the accused pursued the Uber car in which the victim was traveling.

The victim was ambushed by the group and was shot four times from a semi-automatic pistol of the type Beretta 70. The origin of the weapon used by the accused remains unknown, but it is known that the pistol originally comes from the United States.

The suspect does not have a weapons permit. He was arrested in the Hessian town of Wetzlar about two weeks after the fatal shooting.

The trial, which is expected to last for nine days, will examine the evidence against the accused and the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The suspect has remained silent about the charges against him.

The victim, who was not identified, was a known figure in the city's Uber community. His death has shocked the city and the wider community, and many are hoping for justice to be served.

The Düsseldorf Regional Court will be presiding over the trial, with a verdict expected in the coming weeks. The trial's outcome will have significant implications for the accused and the victim's family, as well as for the wider community.
