Helicopter dismount accident leads to soldier's fall
The German Armed Forces base in Daun, Rhineland-Palatinate, was the site of an incident during the open day event celebrating the 60th anniversary of the base. On September 6, 2025, a soldier was injured during a helicopter exercise.
The exercise involved a fast-roping demonstration from a NH-90 helicopter. The soldier was about five to six meters above the ground when he slipped and lost his grip, falling several meters. Despite the fall, the soldier is reported to be conscious and not in critical condition.
The soldier was immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention. The incident occurred over the sports field of the barracks during the helicopter exercise. The Army confirmed the incident and is currently investigating the cause.
The open day exercise was a significant event for the base, attracting a large number of visitors. Despite the unfortunate incident, the event continued to celebrate the rich history and the important role of the German Armed Forces in the Eifel region.
