Historic Siemens Villa to fetch significant revenue through auction
The historic Siemens Villa, nestled on a peninsula jutting into the Lehnitzsee, is set to be auctioned off by the local court in Potsdam. This grand monument, built in 1910 for the Siemens family, boasts a rich history that spans over a century.
Originally constructed for the family of Carl Friedrich Siemens, son of the industrialist and inventor Werner von Siemens, the property has served various purposes over the years. It was a Soviet Army hospital after World War II and a lung clinic from 1952. The family allowed the use of a clinic and a school on the property.
In recent years, the villa has been vacant. A renovation was announced, but it did not come to fruition. The estate changed ownership in 2020 to an undisclosed buyer who began but did not complete renovations. Austrian real estate figure Cevdet Caner has been involved with the property in recent years, but the current ownership after the auction remains unclear.
The auction, a forced auction, is scheduled for Thursday. Despite the secrecy surrounding the auction's background, as forced auction procedures are not public until the date of the public auction, the property's historical significance and unique location are noteworthy. Haiko Türk, head of Practical Monument Preservation at the State Office for Monument Preservation, sees the property as exceptionally special.
The estate, located in Brandenburg, is estimated to have a market value of approximately 27 million euros. The main house, used for living and representative purposes, stands as a testament to the grandeur of the Siemens family. The property's proximity to the Lehnitzsee adds to its allure, offering stunning views and a tranquil setting.
The auction of the former Siemens Villa at Potsdam's Lehnitzsee is a significant event in the preservation of this historic property. Interested parties are encouraged to attend the auction at the local court in Potsdam on Thursday. The future of this iconic monument remains to be seen, but one thing is certain - its rich history and unique location will continue to captivate those who visit.
