Police Traffic Control on Bundesautobahn 31 During Summer Holidays
The Police Inspectorate Emsland/Grafschaft Bentheim conducted a traffic control operation on Friday on the federal motorway 31, focusing on the inspection of cargo securing and vehicle loading. The operation took place from midday to 8 pm at the Ems-Vechte-Ost service station, near Wietmarschen, in the district of Grafschaft Bentheim.
A mixed team of officers from the Autobahnpolizei of the Police Inspectorate Emsland/Grafschaft Bentheim, the "Heavy Duty" unit, and the Police Directorate Osnabrück carried out the control. A total of 21 vehicles were checked, including 8 motorhomes, 9 car-caravan combinations, 2 cars with trailers, and 2 small trucks.
During the operation, modern control technology was used to support traffic control measures. Inadequate cargo securing was found in 5 cases, and an excess of the permissible trailer load was found in one combination. Four vehicles were overloaded, and in two cases, further travel had to be prohibited due to a lack of the necessary driver's license.
In one case, a technical defect was found that required repair before further travel. However, in one case, the prohibition on further travel was lifted when the passenger, who had the correct driver's license, took over the drive.
The police are appealing for careful and considerate driving, and for inquiries outside of business hours, please contact the locally responsible police station. The Press spokesperson for the Police Inspectorate Emsland/Grafschaft Bentheim is Corinna Maatje. The name of the head of the Police Inspection Emsland/Grafschaft Bentheim who was involved in the operation is Nicola Simon.
The police will continue to carry out similar measures in the future to increase safety on motorways and to raise awareness of road traffic risks, particularly during the holiday season.
