Hospital Balcony Fire Incident Triggers Two Emergency Calls for Firefighters in Grevenbroich Amidst an Ongoing Gunfight
Fire Breaks Out in Two Grevenbroich Locations
Two separate incidents of fires occurred in the Grevenbroich district of Wevelinghoven on Saturday evening, causing significant damage and injuries.
The first incident took place around 11:50 pm on "An der Eiche", where a VW bus caught fire. The Grevenbroich fire department, who were already deployed in the area, managed to extinguish the blaze approximately 30 minutes after it started.
Simultaneously, a fire broke out on the balcony of a multi-family house on "An der Kolpingschule". The fire department swiftly contained the fire, and it was under control around ten minutes after it started. However, the fire continued to burn for about an hour before it was completely extinguished.
Thankfully, the rescue forces were able to locate all the tenants in their apartments. Seven individuals were injured by smoke gases, six of whom were taken to hospitals for examination. The whereabouts of two tenants in the building on "An der Kolpingschule" were initially unclear, but they were later found safe.
At least one apartment in the multi-family house on "An der Kolpingschule" will remain permanently uninhabitable, and two other apartments were not usable at least during the night of the fire due to smoke damage and shattered windows.
Approximately 50 fire department personnel were in action on Saturday evening, with both professional and volunteer forces from several fire units dispatched to the scenes.
The fire department cannot provide information on the cause of the fires and the extent of the damage at this time. The incidents are currently under investigation.
