Football Star Toni Kroos Honoured in Greifswald
Toni Kroos, the renowned German midfielder, received a prestigious honour on July 18, 2025, as he was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The Volksstadium event, where the honour was bestowed, was graced by the presence of Minister President Manuela Schwesig.
During the same event, Toni Kroos participated in a game of table football, a gesture that delighted the crowd. He even signed the table football, which later became a prized possession. The signed table football was auctioned off on August 25, 2025, fetching a price of €5,362.
The new owner of the table football is the Hotel Seebruecke in Lubmin, a place that holds a special significance for Toni Kroos. Heidi Moritz, the senior manager of the Hotel Seebruecke, revealed that she has known Toni Kroos and his brother Felix since their childhood. In fact, the family of Toni Kroos celebrated the 90th birthday of their grandfather at the Hotel Seebruecke.
The proceeds from the auction will benefit children's and youth sports in Greifswald. The city sports association will use the funds to support various initiatives, such as training camps or providing sports clothing for children from low-income families.
Toni Kroos also entered the Golden Book of the city of Greifswald during the event. The table football signed by him will have a worthy place in the region, and it will be officially presented by Mayor Dr. Stefan Fassbinder in September.
A young football enthusiast, Maja, was also present at the Volksstadium event, witnessing the momentous occasion. The event was a testament to Toni Kroos's enduring connection with his hometown and his commitment to supporting the next generation of football talent.
