House Fire in Alkenrath: Flames Erupt in Residential Area
In the heart of Leverkusen, a significant incident unfolded on June 4, 2025, as a fire engulfed a multi-family building on Alkenrather Street.
The fire department received a distress call via emergency number 112, with smoke visible from the third floor of a five-story building. Upon arrival, flames were already shooting out of the third-floor window, and people were trapped due to the dense smoke.
A total of 70 fire service personnel, including 20 in basic protection, swiftly sprang into action. Three teams equipped with heavy breathing apparatus initiated rescue operations and firefighting efforts. The Leverkusen Fire Department dispatched professional and volunteer units from various stations, as well as the rescue service. Neighbouring areas of Bergisch Neukirchen and Rheindorf also sent their resources to assist.
The Wiesdorf unit ensured deployment logistics, providing equipment and drinks for the tireless firefighters. A bus from Wupsi was requested and deployed to care for a total of 20 affected persons, supported by the rescue service.
One person was successfully rescued using a fire escape hood via the staircase. Tragically, six individuals were taken to Leverkusen Clinic for further examination due to suspected smoke inhalation.
After the fire department's measures were completed, the scene was handed over to the police. The Department of 63, along with the fire department, is currently checking the scene for structural damage caused by the fire.
Alkenrather Street is currently blocked in both directions for traffic due to the ongoing operation. For inquiries, please contact the Fire Department Leverkusen Duty Officer at 0214 7505-0 (from 6 to 22 o'clock) or email [email protected].
The Department of 50 is accommodating some affected residents in emergency shelters. More information can be found at https://www.leverkusen.de/en/themes/fire-department/.
