In the wake of the ongoing Russian offensive in western Ukraine, the city of Mukachevo, situated in the Transcarpathia region that borders Hungary and Slovakia, has become a target. The Russian air strikes hit a production facility of an electronics manufacturer in Mukachevo, resulting in injuries to 15 people.

Mukachevo, a potential twin city of Bamberg, has been affected by the war in Ukraine. The partnership between the two cities, though delayed, has not been officially cancelled. Bamberg's mayor, Andreas Starke, has expressed shock over the Russian attack on Mukachevo.

Starke has stated that they are in direct contact with the local city leadership in Mukachevo, led by Mayor Julia Tayps. In response to the crisis, Bamberg has offered humanitarian aid, specifically in the form of medical care. The humanitarian aid will be provided through the fire department or the technical relief agency.

Further coordination regarding the humanitarian aid is scheduled to take place over the weekend. Despite the attacks, Mukachevo remains a potential twin city of Bamberg. The city, known for its historical significance, has been affected by the war in Ukraine, with the civilian population bearing the brunt of the conflict.

Transcarpathia, the region where Mukachevo is located, is also affected by the ongoing war. The partnership between Bamberg and Mukachevo, though delayed, is still on the path to becoming official.
