Illegal BMWs Sold with Counterfeit Licenses Stolen in BPOL-FL: 5 Vehicles Affected

In an incident that took place at the former border crossing Kupfermuhle, federal police officers, as part of reintroduced border controls, stopped a white BMW 530e with a Dutch registration on Saturday evening around 11:00 PM.

Inside the vehicle were four young men aged 17 to 31. The stopped vehicle was initially a cause for concern, as the Dutch registration certificate in credit card format handed over by the driver was suspected to be forged.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the car was one digit short, raising suspicion of forgery. The BMW was then checked with the Danish authorities via its chassis number.

However, the 18-year-old Danish driver was able to identify himself properly. The VIN on the car matched the one on the registration certificate, but there was a discrepancy in the data on the registration certificate, which didn't match the 5-series BMW.

The BMW had, in fact, been reported stolen in Denmark since February 26. The search results do not provide information about who took care of the stolen BMW 5-Series in Flensburg before it was found over the weekend.

The BMW impounded at Kupfermuhle was towed away by the local police in Flensburg. The driver of the BMW is now facing criminal proceedings for forgery, embezzlement, misuse of license plates, and violation of the compulsory insurance law for foreigners.
