Immigration enforcement is imminent, as CTU members distribute informational materials detailing individual rights amidst upcoming crackdown

In the bustling city of Chicago, teachers and community leaders are working tirelessly to spread awareness about the escalating immigration enforcement in the area. This heightened activity has been labelled as "Operation Midway Blitz" by Tom Homan, the border czar.

The Latino community, in particular, has found itself in the crosshairs of ICE and homeland security officials. This was evident last Monday when a man selling flowers near an intersection was rounded up by ICE agents.

Rey Wences, the senior director of deportation defense, has encouraged the community to stay vigilant and informed. He stated that what is happening today is an escalation and urged people to keep their eyes on ICE.

In response, community members near Midway have taken matters into their own hands. Additional signs have been put up, letting people know that ICE is in the area and they are not welcome. Neighbours are also passing out flyers door to door, encouraging people to record, take photos, and know their rights.

Eddie Guillen, a member of the West Lawn neighborhood watch, emphasised the importance of ensuring everyone has the opportunity to have representation. Diane Castro, a member of the Chicago Teachers Union, reiterated this message, stating that they are letting family and community know their rights in these moments.

Jermont Terry, who joined your team in October 2019 and is born and raised on Chicago's South Side, has been at the forefront of reporting on his community after 18 years of uncovering stories across the country. Members of the Chicago Teachers Union are taking their message directly to the Latino community, handing out flyers this week and last, with more than 100 schools across the city already warned.

Despite the challenging circumstances, the Chicago community remains resilient. A speaker in the community near Midway declared, "We will not bend knee to ICE." The community's determination to stand up for their rights and support each other during these trying times is a testament to the strength of Chicago's diverse and vibrant community.
