In other news, the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission has identified nine serious operational deficiencies in Metro's control center and rail operations. Training deficiencies, communication and procedural compliance issues, and written assessments and certification tests for controllers present conflicting data about individual competency levels. Metro lacks sufficient rail traffic controllers while experiencing increasing turnover rates. The Train the Trainer program for rail instruction also lacks proper procedural definition.

Lastly, the City of Alexandria will host the second Duke Street Land Use Plan Community Meeting on Thursday, Sept. 25. Alexandria Summer Restaurant Week is ongoing, and a commercial property at 1503-1505 Mount Vernon Ave. is being marketed for lease starting Sept. 1.

Stay tuned for next week's conversation with Alexandria Mayor Alyia Gaskins, who will sit down with ALXnow for a monthly conversation with the community.
