In the Year 2025: Struggling Car Leasing Companies Maintain Popularity Among Car Purchasers
In the ever-evolving world of automobiles, a significant shift has been observed in the used car market. According to the latest data, the Land Rover Range Rover Velar has emerged as the ninth most popular used car, accounting for 6% of lease returns. This development, as stated by CEO Martin Kössler, presents an opportunity for used car buyers looking to switch to an electric vehicle.
The top five most popular used cars also include traditional petrol and diesel models. The Ford Focus takes the fifth spot, with a 10% share of lease returns, while the VW Passat and Kia Ceed follow closely, accounting for 4% and 13% of lease returns respectively.
However, the current ranking of popular used cars now includes both hybrids and pure electric vehicles, according to Kössler. The Kia E-Niro and Hyundai Kona, two electric vehicles, rank eighth and fifth respectively, with 5% and 9% of lease returns each. Interestingly, the Ford Kuga Plug-in Hybrid and the Kia XCeed Plug-in Hybrid also find a place in the top six, with the latter being the most popular used car among lease returns in the first seven months of 2025, accounting for an impressive 25%.
The two hybrid cars with the highest sales figures in lease returns from January to July 2025 are produced by Toyota and Honda. Meanwhile, used car prices have stabilized at a slightly lower but still high level. A three-year-old electric vehicle currently fetches around half of its original list price on the used car market, a more significant price drop compared to traditional vehicles.
In the used van segment, the Ford Transit Custom takes the eighth spot, accounting for 8% of lease returns. The Opel Corsa completes the list of the top ten most popular used cars, with a 4% share of lease returns.
As the demand for electric and hybrid vehicles continues to grow, it will be interesting to see how the used car market evolves in the coming years. With more affordable options becoming available, it seems that the future of used cars is electric.
