Suspect Arrested for Attempted Theft and Assault on Police Officer at Braunschweig Central Station
In a series of events that unfolded on August 18, a 26-year-old suspect was apprehended at Braunschweig Central Station following an attempted theft involving an elderly woman.
According to the Braunschweig Police, the suspect fled the scene after the incident but was later located on a public bus by a witness who promptly alerted the authorities. The police then escorted the suspect off the bus and proceeded to arrest him at John F. Kennedy Square.
However, the suspect resisted and a struggle ensued. During this confrontation, the 32-year-old police officer involved sustained a fracture in his hand, making him unfit for duty until further notice. The suspect is also alleged to have attacked the officer during the struggle.
Following his arrest, the suspect was taken to a police station for further processing. A blood sample was ordered due to suspicion of intoxicants. The suspect's case was originally reported by the Braunschweig Police and transmitted via news aktuell.
