Increase in Apple TV Plus subscription fee imminent
Apple has announced a price increase for its streaming service, Apple TV Plus, in the U.S. market and some international markets. The monthly base fee will rise from $9.99 to $12.99, a change that takes effect from Thursday.
The decision to increase the price was made by Apple itself, as announced by the company. The price adjustment does not apply to the annual subscription or Apple One Services.
Apple TV Plus offers a single tier with 4K HDR and spatial audio quality, making it an ad-free streaming service. The company emphasized this point to 9to5mac.
The price increase is justified by the expansion of the library of original content on Apple TV Plus. The service has seen a significant growth in viewership, with shows like the sci-fi series "Severance" seeing a notable increase in viewership with its second season. "Severance" even ranked fifth in Nielsen's U.S. streaming charts.
Since its launch in 2019, Apple TV Plus has expanded its library of original content. This expansion has been recognised with several awards. Viewership for Apple TV Plus has grown by double digits year-over-year, according to a conference call.
For those who subscribe to Apple One, a single subscription can be shared with up to six people using Family Sharing. Apple One offers all subscription services in one plan at the best value.
Existing Apple TV Plus customers will see the price change 30 days after their next renewal. No specific information was provided about the price changes in other markets beyond the U.S. and certain international markets.
Despite the price increase, Apple TV Plus remains a competitive streaming service in the market, offering high-quality streaming and a growing library of original content.
