Increase in Auto Sales for May 2025: Hyundai India Records 58,701 Units; Export Sales Comprise 25-Percent Plus
Hyundai Motor India Limited Reports May 2025 Sales
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has released its sales figures for May 2025, revealing a total of 58,701 units sold, with a notable impact from planned operational pauses.
In the domestic market, HMIL recorded sales of 43,861 units, a figure affected by a routine biannual maintenance shutdown at its Chennai manufacturing plant. This shutdown impacted the availability of select high-volume models such as the Creta, Venue, and Exter, leading to delivery restrictions. Mini and compact car sales also saw a decline during this period.
On the positive side, HMIL's exports in May 2025 showed continued growth in overseas demand, with 14,840 units shipped. This accounts for 25% of the total sales, underscoring the success of HMIL's "Make in India, Made for the World" initiative, which positions India as a key global export hub.
Key exports include the Grand i10, Aura, and Verna, with HMIL ramping up shipments to Latin America, Africa, and Asia-Pacific markets in recent quarters. The company emphasized consistent growth in outbound shipments, although year-on-year comparison data was not disclosed.
Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and COO of HMIL, acknowledged the impact of the plant shutdown but expressed optimism about future demand recovery. He continued to witness consistent growth in HMIL's export volume and expects a steady increase in demand for both domestic and international shipments.
Garg also expressed hope for reduced uncertainty on the geo-political front and improved macro-economic situation, which could further boost sales in the coming months.
It's worth noting that May 2025 saw a decline in domestic sales for Maruti Suzuki, with a 5.5% drop reported. Meanwhile, Kia India recorded 14.43% growth in the same month, although this is an advertisement and not a fact.
Despite the production constraint, HMIL has maintained a strong position in the compact SUV and premium hatchback segments, demonstrating resilience in the face of challenges. The full extent of the impact on model-wise sales or market share will become clearer once industry-wide figures are available.
