Increase in water level on the Oder River: Approximately 100 THW units deployed

The Technical Relief Agency (THW) has been on high alert along the Oder River since the weekend, preparing for flood defense. The district of Oder-Spree has declared alarm level 4 due to forecasts and rising water levels.

The THW, a federally funded emergency response organization with approximately 88,000 volunteers nationwide, has been operating a central sandbag logistics hub in Eisenhüttenstadt around the clock since September 22. Approximately 70 THW personnel work daily in shifts at this hub, filling sandbags for dike defense using equipment and transporting them to deployment sites.

If any breaches in the dikes are discovered, sandbags can be delivered immediately for sealing. The THW specialists are assigned to the emergency response teams in the districts of Märkisch-Oderland, the city of Frankfurt (Oder), and the district of Oder-Spree. The THW local associations from Frankfurt (Oder), Lübben (Spreewald), Seelow, Fürstenwalde/Spree, Forst (Lausitz), Eberswalde, Prenzlau, Cottbus, Berlin-Mitte, Berlin Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Berlin Pankow, and Lübeck are currently in action.

The THW's work in civil protection is based on the commitment of its volunteers. THW Regional Representative Sebastian Gold recently visited the THW personnel at the sandbag logistics hub in Eisenhüttenstadt and the command and coordination staff (LuK) in Frankfurt (Oder).

Press inquiries should be directed to the THW Regional Association Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt's press duty officer. The contact information for the press duty officer is Soorstraße 84, 14050 Berlin, email: [email protected], phone: 030 30682-138.

The current search results do not provide specific information about which cities belong to the THW operational site on the Oder River or whether the THW has supported those cities since the Oder flood levels rose. However, the THW is called upon worldwide by the federal government when needed, utilizing its experts, equipment, and experience.

The information provided is from the THW Regional Association Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, transmitted via news aktuell. As the situation continues to evolve, the THW remains vigilant and ready to respond to any further developments along the Oder River.
