India Habitat Centre initiates 'Utsav Series' with Onam festivities at Ann, Habitat World venue
The India Habitat Centre (IHC) has launched a new initiative, the "Utsav Series", to celebrate the rich cultural and culinary festivals of India. The first event in this series is the Onam festival, being held at the "Ann" restaurant at Habitat World, IHC, New Delhi, from September 3 to 5, 2025.
The Onam festival is a harvest festival from Kerala that marks the homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali and is celebrated with grandeur, feasting, and floral decorations. This year, the IHC is bringing the authentic traditions of Onam alive for its members.
The festive ambience at the Onam festival is completed with traditional attire, music, and decorations. Guests are greeted by hosts in traditional attire - the Kasavu Saree and Mundu - and the soothing notes of Onam instrumental music welcome them. The restaurant has been decorated with traditional items such as the brass Nilavilakku lamp, intricate Pookkalam rangoli, Kathakali face masks, yellow marigolds, Rajnigandha, coconut, raw bananas, and more.
To formally inaugurate the festival, a traditional Nilavilakku lamp was lit by Prof. (Dr.) K.G. Suresh, Director of the India Habitat Centre, along with other dignitaries. Prof. (Dr.) Suresh stated that the IHC believes food is a way to experience and celebrate India's cultural diversity, and that the Utsav Series aims to bring authentic regional traditions alive for its members.
The highlight of the celebrations is the Onam Thali, which features a variety of traditional dishes such as Black Pepper Rasam, Podi Idli, Paniyaram, Vegetable Pulishery, Cabbage & Carrot Thoran, Coconut Vegetable Curry, Koot Curry, Mix Veg Avial, Kerala Red Rice, Beet Pachadi, Sambhar, Inji Puli, Malabari Paratha, Jaggery Payasam, and South Indian Filter Coffee.
The "Ann" restaurant at Habitat World, IHC, New Delhi, is exclusive to IHC members and their accompanying guests. For media queries, contact Mukta Kapoor at 9811603744 or [email protected]. The Onam festival is not to be missed for those who wish to experience the rich cultural heritage of India.
