Indian Batting Star Achieves 100 Runs in 92 Balls on Day One of Buchi Babu Competition's Domestic Season Preparation
Sarfaraz Khan Shines Again in Domestic Cricket
Sarfaraz Khan, the Mumbai batsman, continues to impress in domestic cricket, despite a recent slump in form at the international level. In the ongoing Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament, Sarfaraz displayed his prowess with a 92-ball century that steered Mumbai to a strong position.
The opening day of the tournament saw Mumbai at 351-5, with Sarfaraz Khan contributing significantly to the team's total. His century came 40 balls later, with a ramped four over the keeper, a testament to his innovative batting style.
Musheer Khan, Sarfaraz's elder brother and Mumbai opener, also scored 30 off 75 balls. However, the innings of Harsh Aghav, batting at No.4, was short-lived as he scored just 2 before being dismissed. Ayush Mhatre, Mumbai's captain, scored 13 before his dismissal.
Sarfaraz Khan's century is a reminder of his potential, which was evident when he notched his maiden Test century (150) during the New Zealand series. However, his slump in form led to his ouster from the Indian Test team. Despite this, Sarfaraz has maintained a current Test average of 37.10 from six matches, with a top score of 150. He has also taken 3 catches.
Sarfaraz Khan earned his Test call-up for India during their 2024 home series against England. He scored 62 and an unbeaten 68 on his Test debut in Rajkot. However, his struggles in the New Zealand series, managing just 11, 9, 0, and 1 in his next four innings, were a setback.
In the Duleep Trophy, Sarfaraz Khan is to be led by Shardul Thakur. He has been named in the 15-member West Zone squad for the tournament. Sarfaraz Khan's consistent performances in domestic cricket, coupled with his international experience, make him a valuable asset to the team.
With his fifth-highest first-class average (65.61) among batters with a minimum of 50 innings, Sarfaraz Khan is undoubtedly one to watch in the upcoming Duleep Trophy and beyond.
