The north-east of England is set to welcome a new film studio, as Turnover XXV, a production company founded by Craig Conway, Amita Krishna, Ajo Kacmar, and Djonny Chen, announces the establishment of Turnover Studios in Teesside. This studio will be a pioneering facility, being the first in the U.K. and Europe to be based inside a Freeport zone.

The exact details about the size, capacity, and timeline for the completion of the Teesside studio are not specified. However, the company's vision is clear: to create a "self-sustaining film pipeline" that develops, produces, and distributes up to five feature films annually.

Local entrepreneur Ammar Mirza, founder of ISS Airview, is supporting the new development and serves as chair of Turnover XXV's advisory board. Mirza described the new Teesside studio as a blueprint for inclusive economic growth, creative innovation, and cultural leadership.

The studio's debut production, "Trash TV," was recently shot at the University of Sunderland and features a star-studded cast including Noah Taylor, Robert Cavanah, Millie Brady, Fellner, and Dave Johns. Directed by Danny Lee, "Trash TV" is a dark satire marking Lee's directorial debut.

Freeports are designated customs areas that offer various incentives and infrastructure support to promote business growth. The Teesside studio aims to deliver impact for the region.

Sunac China, a main investor in Turnover Studios, is backing the new facility. The news about the Teesside studio comes just weeks after another studio development in the region, Crown Works Studios, stalled after losing a major investor.

Turnover XXV has a slate of productions planned for the new Teesside studio when it opens next year. The company positions the studio as a launchpad not only for its slate but for a new kind of filmmaking economy. Craig Conway, CEO of Turnover XXV, stated that the Teesside studio is about shifting the power balance in storytelling and building long-term opportunity where it's needed most.

Interestingly, Fulwell Entertainment, the company behind "The Late Late Show With James Corden," was involved in the stalled Crown Works Studios development. The success of Turnover Studios in Teesside could pave the way for future film studio developments in the region.

Chen, a member of Turnover XXV, has produced more than 30 feature films across Europe and Asia, including his upcoming feature "High Wire" starring Isabella Wei and Dominic Lam. The Teesside studio is poised to be a significant addition to the British film industry.

As the construction of the Teesside studio progresses, the film community eagerly awaits the impact it will have on the local film industry and economy.
