Individual Under Investigation for Two Casinos Robberies in Colorado within a Month
In a recent turn of events, Andrew Joel Irvine, a 26-year-old individual, has been apprehended following his alleged attempt to steal over $76,000 from J.P. McGills Casino in Cripple Creek, Colorado, on August 18.
According to the arrest affidavit obtained by KKTV News, Irvine was caught on the video security system at the casino leaping over the counter and stealing cash. This incident marked his second attempt to rob the casino, as a previous arrest for allegedly trying to jump the cash cage at the same casino in July had already taken place.
Chief Charles Bright of the Cripple Creek Police Department issued a media release, expressing appreciation for the support and professionalism of the Colorado Division of Gaming and the Colorado Springs Police Department in resolving the case. The latest robbery attempt was unsuccessful as Irvine was caught mere hours later in Colorado Springs.
During the second attempt, Irvine wore a dark face mask and, after the robbery, made his way to his vehicle parked at the nearby Double Eagle Casino. Irvine faces charges of second-degree burglary, attempted theft, and third-degree burglary.
It is worth noting that before the 2022 raid on J.P. McGills Casino involving Irvine's arrest, no widely known prior incident specifically linked to him has been reported.
The Colorado Springs Police and the Colorado Division of Gaming assisted in Irvine's arrest, and Chief Bright stated that the case highlights the effectiveness of interagency cooperation. Irvine reportedly admitted to breaking the law after his arrest.
Irvine is currently being held at the Teller County Jail on a $50,000 bond, with his next court appearance scheduled for September 8.
In a strange coincidence, on the same day as Irvine's second robbery attempt, two other casino robbers were caught for stealing money from the Apache Gold Casino and Resort in San Carlos, Arizona.
This development serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to maintain security and order in gaming establishments across the United States. As the case unfolds, more details are expected to emerge, shedding light on the motives and methods employed by Irvine in his alleged criminal activities.
