In an unusual incident, a man was arrested by the South Hessian police for setting a fuel pump at a gas station in Heusenstamm on fire.

According to the police report, the man, who was heavily intoxicated at the time, poured a liquid, presumed to be gasoline, over a fuel pump and ignited it. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, causing a brief panic among the gas station employees and nearby residents.

Fortunately, the quick thinking and actions of the gas station employees prevented a more serious situation. They deactivated all fuel pumps via an emergency stop and grabbed fire extinguishers to put out the flames. The man was found near his apartment shortly after the incident with a blood alcohol level of 2.3 percent.

The man had also threatened a gas station employee and tried to force her to take his phone number earlier that day. He was subsequently banned from the gas station premises.

The police are seeking more witnesses to gather more information about the incident. They believe there may be individuals who had contact with the suspect or can provide valuable insights into his behaviour. The criminal police are actively investigating the case as an arson incident.

The man's actions not only put his own life at risk but also endangered the lives of the gas station employees and the public. The police urge anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and help in the investigation.
