Influx of Tourists Causes Irritation among Residents of Village L'Herbe au Cap Ferret

L'Herbe, a picturesque village in Gironde, France, is known for its stunning beauty and has become a popular destination for tourists seeking the perfect social media pose. However, this popularity has come at a cost for the village's 76 residents, who are now expressing frustration over the tourists' disregard for their privacy and property.

Recent reports from France Télévisions have revealed incidents of tourists taking photos in residents' homes, often disturbing their peace and privacy. One resident, who had a blackout curtain that was 2 meters 20 tall, has had to reduce it to 50 centimeters due to tourists taking pieces as souvenirs.

The long-time resident of L'Herbe shares a feeling of violation, likening the experience to being in a zoo. Another resident caught a passerby trying to enter his house, while some tourists have been known to take pictures of their reflections in residents' windows.

The actions of tourists have not only caused frustration among the residents but have also marred L'Herbe's natural beauty. One tourist expressed regret for spoiling the village's charm due to incivilities.

L'Herbe, it seems, is a victim of its own success. The village is appealing to tourists to show more respect, as they continue to flock to the destination, sharing hundreds of attractive videos and photos on social media. However, the identity of the organization advocating for this change remains unclear.

As the summer days continue to heat up, the residents of L'Herbe hope for a change in tourist behaviour, seeking to enjoy their peaceful village without feeling like they are on display.
