The municipal authority of Bottrop took a proactive step in ensuring public safety by conducting a targeted inspection along the city's gastronomic mile on August 21. The inspection, which took place from 10 pm to midnight, was aimed at investigating complaints, strengthening security, and enforcing legal provisions.

Michael Althammer, head of the public order office (Ordnungsamt) of the city administration of Bottrop, led the operation. Althammer emphasized that the aim was for the people of Bottrop to not only be objectively safe but also to feel safe. He stated, "The inspection was meant to send a clear signal for order and security."

The inspection involved personnel from the communal order service and the trade department. A total of eight personnel were involved, four in civilian clothing and four in uniform. During the controls, several violations were detected.

Seven warnings of 50 euros each were issued for littering. Four fines of 100 euros were issued for public urination. In one case, the police were called in due to persons refusing to provide their personal details. Refusal to provide personal details can result in a fine of up to 1,000 euros. In some cases, force had to be applied to apprehend individuals who attempted to flee.

The inspection was in response to a brutal stabbing attack the previous evening. The municipal authority takes complaints seriously and acts accordingly. The aim of the inspection was to prevent the impression of apparent lawless areas.

Administrative offense and criminal proceedings have been initiated in all cases. The municipal authority has emphasized that such actions are important for ensuring public safety. Althammer reiterated, "The aim is for the people of Bottrop to not only be objectively safe but also to feel safe."
