Living a Rough Life: Altyn Dala Residents Battle with Unpaved Roads and Poor Internet
Life in Altyn Dala, a residential complex in Akmola region, has been no walk in the park. Residents have been grappling with treacherous roads and slow internet for years. To make matters worse, they spend hours commuting to the capital, which is a dozen kilometers away, navigating potholes and ruts. Children, unable to access high-speed internet, struggle with online learning and are often sent to school classrooms.
Dating back nine years, Altyn Dala, with its five buildings, has an unfinished and unlandscaped territory. The main issue lies in the unpaved road that residents have been waiting years to be asphalted.
"Navigating the road before reaching the highway is a challenge, especially for those without cars, the elderly, and those on a tight budget," complains resident Alfia Kaikymzhanova.
The road woes are not the only headache for residents, as the internet connection is also poor. In these pandemic times, with teachers and students relying on it as much as on air, the situation gets dire.
"As a school teacher, during the pandemic, we've all shifted to online learning. Our internet connection is weak. Teaching and working under these conditions is tough, which is why I go to school to teach the children online," says resident Kenjeghul Esjanov, who has two school-age children.
Residents are forced to send their children to school by bus, while children trudge through muddy roads during the rainy season and snow in winter to attend classes.
Policy-makers remain silent on the issue, but the project manager of the contracting organization, Azamat Birseitov, assures that the road construction is funded and will take place next year. However, residents are growing impatient and are preparing for the upcoming winter.
