Initiated Commencement of Bergisch Gladbach's First School Street

In the picturesque town of Bergisch Gladbach, a new initiative aimed at enhancing safety and promoting a healthier environment for children has been met with widespread approval. The school street in front of KGS "In der Auen" began operation today, marking a significant step forward in the city's commitment to sustainable mobility.

Ragnar Migenda, the election officer of Bergisch Gladbach, praised the city's mobility expertise and commitment to developing measures that meet a broad consensus. Speaking about the school street, Migenda expressed appreciation for the openness and willingness to cooperate demonstrated by the school, parents, and residents.

The school street concept, introduced as a timed traffic restriction in front of the school, started a week after the new school year. During restricted hours, the immediate street area in front of the school remains almost car-free, providing families and the school community with time to adjust before new traffic regulations.

The children at KGS are thrilled with the reduced number of cars in front of the school, feeling safer as a result. Many parents show understanding, and the atmosphere remains relaxed. The feedback from the school community is overwhelmingly positive, with the parents' council approving the school street initiative. Moni Kellermann, chairperson of the school council at KGS, expressed enthusiasm for the measure.

Motorized traffic diverts to surrounding streets as planned, and the traffic flow on "In der Auen" street is not noticeably impacted. Ragnar Migenda, First Deputy Mayor of Bergisch Gladbach, emphasizes that many concerns about the school street have not materialized. He thanks everyone involved for their cooperation in making the school street initiative successful.

The city will continue to closely monitor the implementation of the school street and is available for questions and suggestions at [email protected]. Both residents and the majority of parents welcome the school street measure, according to school principal Anton Pezl.

Overall, the school street initiative has been launched smoothly, according to Ragnar Migenda, with a relaxed and understanding atmosphere prevailing among parents and residents. The success of this initiative underscores the city's commitment to creating safer and healthier environments for its citizens, particularly for its youngest members.
