Inspirational Laughs: A Comedy About Overcoming Challenges

In the upcoming film, The Upside, audiences will be treated to an inspirational comedy based on a true-life friendship. The story chronicles the unexpected friendship between a wealthy man with quadriplegia and an ex-con, offering a fresh perspective on two characters who, at first glance, seem worlds apart.

The wealthy man, Phillip, is played by Bryan Cranston, best known for his roles in Breaking Bad and Malcolm in the Middle. On the other hand, the ex-con, Dell Scott, is portrayed by Kevin Hart, known for his comedic roles in films like Ride Along and Central Intelligence.

Director Neil Burger, who previously directed films such as The Illusionist and Limitless, felt that an English language adaptation could bring the story to a new level for American audiences. The producers, Jason Blumenthal, Todd Black, and Steve Tisch, were inspired to remake the French film Les Intouchables.

The physical requirements of playing a person with quadriplegia presented a new challenge for Bryan Cranston. To deliver an emotional, funny, and heartbreaking performance without using most of his usual acting tools, he had to approach his character in an entirely new way. Director Neil Burger praises Bryan Cranston's hard work and dedication to portraying the role respectfully.

Life is not easy for either Dell nor Phillip. Dell, just out of prison, is in desperate need of a job, while Phillip sees little future for himself as a 60-something person with quadriplegia. Their different struggles, however, do not prevent them from learning from each other and building a unique relationship.

Kevin Hart's role in the film offers an opportunity to introduce audiences to his dramatic talents while still infusing humor into his performance. Meanwhile, Bryan Cranston was cast as Phillip due to his great acting skills and empathy.

The film's producers wanted to delve deeper into the lives of the real people the original film is based on. As Dell encounters a new situation as a caregiver for Phillip, audiences will witness the challenges faced by Dell, an African American male just out of prison, and Phillip, a 60-something person with quadriplegia.

Both Dell and Phillip rely equally on each other as their friendship progresses. The producers, Jason Blumenthal and Todd Black, believe that Dell and Phillip's lives intersect at the perfect moment and change each other's lives when they most needed it.

The Upside is directed by Neil Burger and written by Jon Hartmere. With its inspiring story, talented cast, and heartfelt performances, this film is sure to touch the hearts of audiences everywhere.
