Insurance providers and insurance brokers influence customers to opt for health insurance plans through various tactics.

In June 2021, a survey of over 1,000 German citizens revealed a pressing need for insurers to engage in individual dialogue with their customers to identify and close any gaps in coverage. The results indicate that nearly two-thirds (61%) of respondents rate their current insurance situation in the areas of hospital, private nursing home, dental, and international health insurance supplements as partially inadequate or poor.

The survey also showed that the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly increased the attention of German citizens to care in case of illness or nursing care. As a result, 39% of respondents pay more or significantly more attention to supplementary insurance than before the pandemic.

Insurers are challenged to reach potential customers in the flood of available information due to the changes in customer behaviour caused by the pandemic. A potential solution for insurers is a multi-channel approach with simple, targeted sales paths. This strategy could help insurers tap into the immense potential that lies in reaching potential customers.

Interestingly, more than 30% of Germans who have already considered supplementary health insurance want to buy it but haven't yet. Consumers consider international health protection and inpatient and dental supplements to be particularly important.

Despite the search for specific information about the number of providers in Germany in 2021 who specialized in personalized customer engagement and identifying coverage gaps for supplementary health and long-term care insurance, no new self-contained facts were found. Nonetheless, the need for such services is clear, and it remains to be seen how the insurance industry will adapt to meet this demand.
