In the troubled city of Gaza, a war that has been raging for 23 months shows no signs of abating. Over the past week, 70,000 civilians have been forced to flee their homes, seeking safety in the south due to intensified Israeli military operations and mass evacuation orders.

The recent evacuations have left many civilians trapped in conflict zones, with no safe areas within Gaza according to UN and humanitarian representatives. Palestinian officials report fewer evacuations, but the situation on the ground remains dire.

Israel's military operations have been escalating, with the destruction of a tower in the city of Gaza on September 6 by the Israeli army. This tower, identified as a Hamas stronghold by Tsahal, was also considered a residential tower by local authorities. The destruction of this building marks the third major building hit in Gaza in 24 hours, leaving nothing standing upright.

The neighborhood of Zaytoun in the south of Gaza has been completely flattened in just two weeks. Residents like Moustafa al-Jamal, who has 15 family members and no means to support them, express concerns about finding shelter and resources if they were to leave.

Rami Abou Jamous, a journalist and author, is among those preparing to evacuate with his family. He has packed his suitcase with important papers, ready for the journey. Evacuation messages were sent to residents of Gaza on September 6, inviting them to leave and go to humanitarian zones 24 km south of the city.

As the conflict continues, the question of whether to leave or stay in Gaza remains for a million residents. Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, has stated that there are only two options for Gaza: either Hamas surrenders or it is exterminated. Israel currently controls 80% of the Gaza enclave and 40% of Gaza, indicating a growing Israeli presence.

However, Israel's new strategy aims to take control of the entire city of Gaza and destroy it. The destruction of the tower in the city of Gaza on September 6 was not mentioned as an evacuation-related event, suggesting that the Israeli military may be targeting strategic locations rather than civilian areas.

The recent evacuation of 70,000 people suggests a growing trend. As the conflict continues, the future of Gaza remains uncertain, with many residents left to make the difficult decision of whether to stay and risk their lives or flee and face an uncertain future.
