Interactive platform for family health management
In the heart of Bamberg, Germany, two initiatives are making a significant impact on the lives of migrants and their families. The MiMi-Bayern project, aimed at promoting health literacy among migrants, and the Klarwerk program, offering support for psychological stress, are working together to create a more inclusive and supportive community.
MiMi-Bayern, a project carried out by the Ethno-Medical Center e.V., has trained numerous intercultural mediators who pass on essential information in their native languages to fellow migrants. These mediators cover a diverse range of languages, including Arabic, Armenian, Chinese, German, English, French, Kurdish, Persian, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, and Ukrainian.
MiMi-Info Events, which are free and usually held in a group setting, take place at various locations such as the Blue Frieda, the Anchor Center, or the Israelite Cultural Community. Interpreters are available to cover other languages, ensuring that everyone can participate and benefit from the events.
The MiMi Health Day, part of the meeteinander project's leisure festival, held at the Ost Youth Center, was a highlight of the MiMi-Bayern calendar. The day was filled with interactive activities, including a mega floor newspaper with a Hepatitis C quiz, an oversized tooth model for demonstrating tooth-brushing skills, and a sugar exhibition showing foods and drinks with the corresponding number of sugar cubes.
The Klarwerk program, a joint project of the city and district of Bamberg and the Gesundheitsregion Plus, provides children, young people, and families with important information and support in dealing with psychological stress. This includes free online parenting evenings, making it easier for families to access the help they need.
The Bamberg Health Department, a long-standing cooperation partner of the MiMi project, was also present at the MiMi Health Day. Representatives from the department, including Marina Glasunova, Anca Marza, Tatjana Schell, Yvonne Rüttger, and Sarah Scheller, were on hand to discuss low-threshold health offers for families in the Bamberg region, with a particular focus on the mental health of children and young people.
For those seeking more information about MiMi-Bayern, Yvonne Rüttger, the location coordinator, can be contacted at yvonne.ruettger@ourwebsite or 0951/87-1446, or you can visit www.ourwebsite/mimi.
