World Boxing Championships Kick Off in Liverpool with a Star-Studded Lineup

The World Boxing Championships, organised by the World Boxing Federation, are underway in Liverpool, United Kingdom, and are set to be a spectacle of athletic prowess and international competition. The championships, which run until September 14, are attracting some of the biggest names in the sport, including Olympic medalists and world champions.

Among the contenders are the Kazakhstan team, who are expected to deliver a strong performance, according to the National Olympic Committee's press service. The team has been training in the Almaty Region and Sheffield in preparation for the event. Kazakhstan's roster includes Torekhan Sabyrkhan, competing in the 70 kilograms category, Aibek Oralbay in the super heavyweight division, and Nurbek Oralbay, silver medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics, in the 80 kilograms category.

Bekzad Nurdauletov, a former world champion, is returning to the championships after a professional career. Sabyrzhan Akkalykov is another strong contender from Kazakhstan, competing in the 75 kilograms category. Makhmud Sabyrkhan is a promising boxer in the 55 kilograms category, while Sagyndyk Togambay is a world champion in the 50 kilograms category and a strong contender in the 90 kilograms category.

Experts predict that Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Cuba will be the teams to watch, with the potential to contend for most of the medals. These countries, along with Russia and the United States, are considered favourites for the Championships.

The last world championships in 2023 saw Uzbekistan win five gold medals, Kazakhstan four, and Cuba one. With such a competitive field, the 2023 Championships in Liverpool are shaping up to be an exciting and closely contested event.

More than 500 boxers from 60 countries are participating in the Championships, making for a diverse and thrilling competition. The men's medals will be contested across ten weight categories, ensuring a wide range of matches and potential upsets.

As the World Boxing Championships get underway, boxing fans worldwide are eagerly anticipating the action. With a strong Kazakhstan team, a competitive field, and a rich history of success, the Championships promise to be a thrilling display of boxing skill and athleticism.
