International cities of Paris and London express their disapproval toward Israeli aerial attacks on Qatar

In a series of statements, world leaders have expressed their concerns over the Israeli airstrikes on suspected Hamas members in Qatar, with French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer leading the criticism.

The airstrikes, which took place on Tuesday, have been met with fierce opposition from various global figures. In the evening, Macron wrote on the X platform, "The Israeli airstrikes in Qatar are unacceptable, regardless of the reason." He also expressed his solidarity with Qatar and its Emir, Sheikh Tamim Al-Thani.

Starmer, too, has voiced his disapproval, calling for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and a significant increase in aid to the Gaza Strip. He stated, "This is the only solution for lasting peace."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, however, has defended Israel's actions. Speaking at the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem, Netanyahu referred to the Hamas' large-scale attack on Israel in October 2023, which resulted in around 1,200 fatalities, as the 7th of October. He criticised several Western countries for their stance on the Middle East conflict, stating, "I do not forget, and Israel does not forget," regarding the 7th of October.

The large-scale attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023, were carried out by Hamas militants. They breached the Gaza–Israel barrier, attacking military bases and civilians in 21 communities. Over 250 hostages were taken during the attacks.

Netanyahu's statements came shortly after those of Macron and Starmer. It remains to be seen how this developing situation will unfold in the days ahead.
