International Collaboration Award 2025 between Germany and Italy
In an effort to honour innovative ideas that promote German-Italian municipal engagement, Federal President Steinmeier and Italian President Mattarella are set to award the "Presidents' Prize for German-Italian Municipal Cooperation" for the third time. This prestigious prize, jointly awarded by the Federal Foreign Office and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aims to foster cross-border municipal and civic engagement and promote the common good between the two nations.
With over 400 town twinning partnerships and numerous other partnerships already existing between German and Italian municipalities, this prize offers an opportunity to recognise and encourage projects that further strengthen these collaborations. The deadline for applications is the 16th of May, 2025.
Projects that foster cross-border municipal and civic engagement and promote the common good are eligible for nomination. The themes for the submitted project ideas include youth participation and democracy, public space, sustainability, intergenerational dialogue, and remembrance culture.
A jury will select the winners of the "Presidents' Prize for German-Italian Municipal Cooperation", with the award ceremony scheduled for autumn 2025. To apply, municipalities from Germany and Italy can submit a joint project proposal by visiting the provided link for the call for applications.
It is important to note that these partnerships are not only about fostering bilateral dialogue but also make a significant contribution to building inclusive societies and helping to prevent intolerance, violence, and radicalism. By bringing people from Germany and Italy together, these partnerships promote understanding and cooperation between the two nations.
