International Cricket Council adjusts player rankings due to technical glitches, resulting in the exclusion of Rohit and Kohli from the One-Day International (ODI) list, and the addition of a 54-year-old Kenyan all-rounder.
In the latest update to the ICC Men's One Day International (ODI) player rankings, Azmatullah Omarzai of Afghanistan has claimed the top spot among all-rounders, boasting a rating of 296. This position is closely followed by Mohammad Nabi, who currently holds the second position with a rating of 292. Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe and S. Raza are tied for the third spot with a rating of 290.
In the batting department, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli continue to dominate, with Sharma ranked second (756) and Kohli fourth (736). Shubman Gill of India has taken the top spot with a staggering rating of 784. Other notable mentions include Babar Azam, who is ranked third with a rating of 739, and Daryl Mitchell, who is fifth with a rating of 720.
The bowling rankings saw a significant shift, with Keshav Maharaj of South Africa reclaiming the No.1 spot with a rating of 687. Bernard Scholtz and Maheesh Theekshana are ranked fourth and second, respectively, with ratings of 644 and 671. Matt Henry of New Zealand and Kuldeep Yadav of India are ranked seventh and third, with ratings of 622 and 650, respectively.
Interestingly, several retired or inactive players have appeared in the ODI rankings, having not played for over a decade. Examples include Steve Tikolo, Alex Obanda, Thomas Odoyo, Anshy Rath, Faf du Plessis, Babar Hayat, Jason Roy, and Tanmay Mishra.
The rankings were initially met with issues, which the ICC is currently investigating. However, the technical problems were resolved, and the rankings were restored with the inactive players removed. The corrected ICC men's ODI batting rankings for August 20, 2025, have since been published.
In the corrected rankings, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retained their positions from last week, with Sharma second and Kohli fourth among batsmen. Other notable movements include Shreyas Iyer, who is now ranked eighth, and Charith Asalanka, who is sixth among batsmen.
In the all-rounder rankings, Rashid Khan moved up to fifth, while Brandon McMullen and Michael Bracewell entered the top six. Wanindu Hasaranga and Ravindra Jadeja are ranked eighth and ninth among bowlers, respectively. Adam Zampa is ranked tenth among bowlers, with Harry Tector and Shai Hope completing the top ten among batsmen.
Despite their retirement from T20Is and Tests, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli remain active in the ODI format and continue to make a significant impact. The latest rankings update serves as a testament to their enduring dominance in the ODI format.
