International Cricket Council announces locations for 2027 ODI World Cup: South Africa to stage 44 matches, while the remaining ten games will take place elsewhere.

The cricket world is gearing up for an exciting event as the 2027 ODI World Cup is set to take place in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. This will be the second time these countries co-host a tournament, following the successful 2003 edition.

The tournament, which will reflect diversity, inclusivity, and unity, will consist of 54 matches in total. South Africa will host 44 matches, while the remaining 10 will be played in Namibia and Zimbabwe.

The Local Organising Committee Board (LOCA), headed by Independent Chairman Trevor Manuel, has been formed for the organisation of the event. Pearl Maphoshe, CSA Board Chairperson, expressed confidence in the LOCA's ability to deliver a successful and impactful event.

Qualification for the tournament follows the standard pathway for all teams. South Africa and Zimbabwe, as hosts, have automatically qualified. The top eight teams in the ICC ODI rankings as of 31 March 2027 will also secure their spots. Notably, Namibia, as a non-full member nation of the ICC, will have to qualify for the tournament through the standard pathway.

The 2027 ODI World Cup will feature some of the biggest names in cricket. The defending champions, Australia, are expected to return, having beaten India in the final of the 2023 edition at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Other teams confirmed to participate include South Africa, the Netherlands, England, Australia, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan.

The tournament will be structured into two groups of seven teams, with the top three from each group progressing to the Super Six stage. The exact dates for the tournament have not been announced yet, but it is expected to take place in October and November 2027.

With the 2027 ODI World Cup just a few years away, anticipation is building among cricket fans worldwide. The event promises to be a thrilling display of cricket, showcasing the best of the sport in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
