International fugitive apprehended by federal police at Cologne-Bonn Airport, NRW.
In a significant development in international cooperation against cross-border crime, the Federal Police (Bundespolizei) arrested a 32-year-old Iraqi woman at Cologne/Bonn Airport on August 28, 2025.
The arrest was due to an international arrest warrant issued by the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) based on an extradition request from the United States of America (USA) for charges of money laundering and concealing illegally obtained assets.
The woman, who hails from Belgium, presented herself for departure control at around 5:00 PM. During this process, she was arrested during departure control for a flight to Istanbul-Sabiha Gökçen.
Upon her arrival at the federal police station, the warrant was executed in coordination with the BKA and the Cologne Police Headquarters. After conducting further identity checks, the warrant was confirmed, and the woman was provisionally arrested.
The woman was subsequently transferred to the detention facility of the Cologne Police Headquarters at around 10:30 PM.
