The Durham Global Lecture series, a programme launched in 2019, recently took place at the UK Ambassador's Residence in Brussels. The event, focusing on urban infrastructure, climate change, disaster, and risk, was delivered by Durham's Archaeology Professor Robin Coningham.

The lecture was invited by the United Kingdom's Ambassador to the European Union, Mr Lindsay Croisdale-Appleby CMG, and co-chaired by Durham's Vice-Chancellor and Warden, Professor Karen O'Brien, and UNESCO's Representative to the European Union, Ms Louise Haxthausen.

Professor Coningham shared insights into Durham's international collaborations to develop methods for protecting heritage in response to and in anticipation of humanitarian crises. The proceedings were attended by many, with several joining via Zoom.

The lecture's findings are now contributing to research-led archaeology learning within the new module, 'Archaeology and Global Sustainable Development', which recently won the University's 2023 Global Curriculum Award.

The Durham Global Lecture series aims to encourage international discussion and debate, engaging with Durham's global community of academics, alumni, and supporters. For more information about the series, visit the UK Nat Commission for UNESCO website.
